The Vilnius manuscript copy of the Letter by Kievan Metropolitan Kliment Smoliatich to the Smolensk presbyter Thomas commented by monk Athanasius

Abstract

The author introduces a new (previously unknown) mid-17th century manuscript copy of the Letter by Kievan metropolitan Kliment Smoliatich to Presbyter Thomas commented by monk Athanasius. The new copy is found in a convolute Old Church Slavonic General Homiliarium now kept without a call number at the Institute of Lithuanian Language in Vilnius. The article presents a concise description of the manuscript and a general characteristic of the newly identified copy along with its publication. The most striking feature of the Vilnius copy is that approximately 2/3 of its entire text consist of textual units totally unknown from the previously identified sources.
