Mariological Argumentation for the Modern Interpretation of Death as a Result of Original Sin in Catholic Theology

Abstract

The Magisterium of the Catholic Church proclaims that man would be free from bodily death if he had not sinned. This statement may seem to contradict the observable fact that biological death is an integral part of life on earth. Nowadays, many theologians have managed to solve this difficulty by saying that bodily death is natural for man, but it has taken on a different character since sin occurred. This thesis seems to be corroborated by the Catholic dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in connection with the dogma of her Immaculate Conception.
