Some bioethical problems in the understanding of the Pentecostal Churches and the Catholic Church. Theological-comparative study

Mariusz Kocoł

Abstract

Development of medical science creates the need for reflection – which new discoveries serve humanity in a positive way, and which are a threat to its existence, dignity and sanctity. The sad fact is that Christians are not only divided as far as the issues of many principles of faith are concerned, but they also have diff erent teaching about ethical norms. Surprisingly however, the Pentecostal and Catholic moral stance concerning the issues of abortion, in vitro fertilization and euthanasia is united in many respects. Both traditions hold the position that human life begins at the time of conception and has a unique value, that abortion is wrong and that it is unacceptable to use methods to end life, even in the case of illness or disability. This is of great value in the work towards the unity of Christians, but it also provides a solid foundation for joining forces in the battle for respect of the value of human life from conception to natural death.
