Theological Vision. Its Importance and Conditions of its Formation in the Evangelical Perspective of Richard Lints

Robert Miksa

Abstract

The article presents the rarely addressed subject of establishing a method of developing a theological vision from an evangelical perspective. It focuses on Richard Lints, a Professor of Theology at Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary. Lints argues that in order to articulate a theological vision, it is necessary to establish a theological framework, which he refers to as a theological matrix. The first step in this process is to recognize that the words of God revealed to us are the source of our theological knowledge. However, it is important to acknowledge that the interpretation of this revelation is greatly influenced by our cultural, traditional, and rational perspectives. Taking these dependencies into account is crucial for approaching its content with minimal bias. In his attempt to critique modern culture through a theological lens, Lints suggests dividing it into three distinct components: the church, popular culture, and academic institutions. By addressing each of these parts separately, a comprehensive analysis can be conducted.
