Personalist-Historical Character of God’sRevelation in the Thought of Vladimir N. Lossky

Abstract

In Christianity, everything depends on the Revelation of God, moreover: it itself is His result and at the same time a transmitter. The category of Divine Revelationis the hermeneutical key to understanding the relationship between the Triune God and man and the world, so it demands a proper interpretation; on the one hand it determines the self-understanding of Christianity, and its relation to other religions or proposals of salvation on the other. This text is an attempt to look into the approach to the Revelation of God by one of the most important Orthodox theologians of the 20thcentury, Vladimir N. Lossky, especially in terms of its two most important dimensions: personality and historicity. The thought of the Russian contains not only penetrating and in-depth analysis of what is specifically Christian in the context of revelatio Dei, but also fascinating intuitions in the field of Christian theology of religion. Extracting tchem in directly and in so doing indicating their hermeneutic potential, for example, in an ecumenical and interreligious context, together with an encouragement to a wider interest in Lossky’s theological legacy in our native land, is the goal fundamental aim of this article.
