The concept of God’s presence as understood by the Pentecostal Third Wave Movement as exempli-fied in the teaching of Benny Hinn

Abstract

The doctrine of God’s special presence is one of the most important theological themes addressed by the Third Wave Movement. Through the prism of God’s presence, hamartiology, soteriology and anthropology are viewed through the prism of God’s presence. According to the Movement’s understanding, God’s presence, or His glory, is the Holy Spirit. The path to this mystical experience of God is explained based on an allegorical interpretation of the description of the tabernacle of Moses contained in the Pentateuch. The movement makes a clear distinction between God’s general and special presence, between knowing God’s works and knowing God himself, between knowledge of God and encountering God himself. The effect of this understanding of God’s presence is to call contemporary believers to a deeper spiritual life.
