The publishing heritage of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the Second Polish Republic — the state of knowledge and research perspectives

Abstract

The Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the interwar period, despite all difficulties in relations with the state and society, experienced a period of the church life revival. Metropolitan Dionizy (Waledyński) strove for wide-ranging church and educational activities. He picked a large-scale book publishing house as one of the main directions of it with the Warsaw Synodal Printing House as a center. The article analyzes the history and the current state of research on church publications in the interwar Poland, assesses their scale and prospects for further research. The author concludes that despite the abundance of research on the history of the Orthodox Church in the Second Polish Republic, the history of book publishing remains virtually unexplored.
