The Name of God as an Icon Written by Sound

Abstract

The article deals with the biblical basis and sources of the Orthodox theology of the Name of God and predominantly concerns the field of fundamental theology, but also biblical studies, dogmatic theology and iconography. Firstly, Orthodox iconography is analyzed. An examination follows of the iconographic motifs and content that are carriers of the theology of the Name of God in the external – artistic and mystical spheres. Finally, comparative analysis of the theological ideas and concepts that are the basis of the cult of icons with the assumptions and foundations of the cult of the Name of God in Orthodoxy is carried out. The article “The Name of God as an icon painted by sound” is the result of interdisciplinary research on the phenomenon of the cult of the Name of God in Eastern Christianity
