Orthodox Political Theology and Politology – Characteristics from the Perspective of Orthodox Doctrin

Abstract

This article focuses on providing definitions and pointing out the fundamental differences existing in the academic studies between the terms Orthodox political theology and Orthodox politology. Both of them represent scientific sub-disciplines in which we can seek answers to the question of the Orthodox Church’s relationship with society, its attitude towards political models and global events, including wars and political conflicts. The systematisation of concepts enables trial of presenting an appropriate research space and methodology. Conclusions are focused around the postulates of terminological precision and the selection of a proper research space, which will allow the adoption of a proper methodology for analysing and solving problems in the Church’s relationship with the socio-political world. The correct methodology, in turn, will allow for a further path of searching for answers and arguments in discussions concerning general social, political or worldview issues.
