    Abstract

    The paper discusses informal post-war relations between the Mariavite and the Roman Catholic Church in the years 1945-1970. It focuses on the presentation of the opinions and the efforts of the representatives of both denominations to evaluate the grounds for the schism between the Mariavite Church and the Mother Church, to clarify the existing theological differences, normalize the bilateral relations between the Churches as well
    as on mutual reconciliation. During the period under consideration, thanks to diverse transformations after World War II and the noble decrees of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), favourable conditions were created
    to initiate official discussions in later years between the Mariavites and the Roman Catholics. The tendencies outlined and the specific measures taken by some of the priests and lay activists, which intensified in the 1960s,
    provided fertile ground not only to overcome mutual mistrust and resolve points of dispute, but also to establish practical cooperation in a spirit of love and respect.
