Various forms of official dialogue between the Mariavite and the Roman Catholic Church in the years 1971-1996

Abstract

The text discusses the various forms of dialogue between the Mariavite and the Roman Catholic Church in the years 1971-1996. The contacts during the period in question between the Mariavite clerics of both denominations (Płock & Felicjanów) and Roman Catholic clerics had an official and reconciliatory character. Their aim was to gain mutual knowledge and to seek an agreement as to the possibility of establishing practical cooperation, to revoke the Excommunication imposed in 1906 on sister Feliksa Maria Franciszka Kozłowska (1862-1921), the founder of Mariavitism, and to clarify the teaching about the Holy Baptism between the two Mariavite Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. Joint interdenominational meetings brought an improvement of the relations between the Mariavites of both denominations and the Roman Catholics and led to the signing of final reports on the Holy Baptism between the Old Catholic Mariavite Church and the Roman Catholic Church (1978), and between the Catholic Mariavite Church and the Catholic Church (1984).
