Abstract

The author asks about an origin of the phrase in Math 1:25. Review of all Old Testament texts in which the verb to know (Hebrew [dy) means to have sex/intercourse (with sb) and stands with a negation, shows that Math 1:25a bases on Gen 24:16; 38:26b; 1 Kings 1:4. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is presented as second Rebkah and Tamar, and Joseph as second Juda and David.
